Jan. 9, 2008

Craig Keilitz, Wake Forest's Associate Athletic Director, has been named the director of athletics at High Point University. The announcement was made Thursday, Jan. 9, by HPU President Dr. Nido R. Qubein.

Keilitz has been at Wake Forest since 1996 when he was hired as the assistant athletic director for compliance. After two years, athletic director Ron Wellman promoted Keilitz to associate athletic director for internal operations where he supervised the NCAA compliance office, the sports medicine and equipment operations as well as strength and conditioning and event management.

In 2001, Keilitz became Wake Forest's associate athletic director where he supervised the marketing and promotions, media relations, and facilities operations while also overseeing the baseball and women's volleyball programs.

A 1991 graduate of Central Michigan University, Keilitz earned his bachelor's degree in communications with a minor in marketing. He received his masters in sports administration from Ohio University in 1992.

Keilitz started his career at the University of Michigan in 1993 where he assisted the director of NCAA compliance. In 1995 he was promoted to director of compliance where he oversaw initial eligibility, continuing eligibility and financial aid matters.

Under Keilitz's supervision, Wake Forest football has set season attendance records in five of the last six seasons. In 2007, Wake drew nearly 200,000 fans to six home games, a record-setting average of 32,595 fans per game.
