Wake Forest's Cotten Named State's Top Broadcaster

Feb. 8, 2007

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Stan Cotten, who handles play-by-play of football, men's basketball and baseball on the Wake Forest ISP Sports Network, has been named the 2006 Sportscaster of the Year in the state of North Carolina by the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association.

"Any time that your peers single you out, it's meaningful," Cotten says.  "I look at this, though, as a team honor and a reflection of a true team effort.  It is recognition of what we are doing at ISP, with Wake Forest's support, to create quality sports programming for the Demon Deacons."

Now in his 11th season with Wake Forest, Cotten is a native of Knoxville, Tenn..  He became the "Voice of the Deacs" after serving as play-by-play man for the Marshall Thundering Herd and Division II football power Carson-Newman College.  He was three times honored in his home state by the Associated Press Broadcasters' Association prior to moving to Marshall, and then to Wake Forest.

Cotten is one of five members of the ISP Network who received statewide recognition from the NSSA.  Rod Bramblett (Auburn University / state of Alabama), Steve Cotton (Marshall University / West Virginia), Mike Morgan (University of South Carolina / South Carolina) and Bill Roth (Virginia Tech / Virginia) were honored in their respective states as well.
