Monday Morning Golf Report

April 6, 2009

After missing two-straight cuts, Webb Simpson finished tied for 11th last weekend at Bay Hill and then made his second-consecutive cut this weekend at the Shell Houston Open.

The wind reeked havoc on the field on Thursday as only about half the players even started their first round. That meant most players had to play catch-up which undoubtedly took its toll.

Simpson was one of those players that didn't even start his round on Thursday and didn't complete his third round until Sunday morning. Despite the rocky schedule, he was able to post rounds of 71-71-71-75 to finish tied for T52.

Bill Haas was in the same predicament but he wasn't as fortunate, missing the cut by two shots.

The going wasn't much better at the Nationwide Tour's Stonebrae Classic as all three former Deacons, Kyle Reifers, Ron Whittaker and Len Mattiace missed the cut.

The LPGA Tour hosted its first major of the season at the Kraft Nabisco Championship this past weekend. Laura Diaz didn't play as well as she would have hoped but made the cut and finished T60 after rounds of 76-76-73-76.

The Champions Tour, which was off this past weekend, will get back in action at the Outback Steakhouse Pro-Am in Tampa, Fla., this week. The LPGA Tour will now take a couple of weeks off and the Nationwide Tour will be off until April 16.

The PGA Tour is gearing up for Masters week. There are no former Demon Deacons in the field this week but they will be ready to go in two weeks at the Verizon Heritage at Harbor Town Golf Links at Hilton Head, S.C.
