May 29, 2012

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - More than 100 members of the Wake Forest Athletics staff will devote time and energy to local nonprofits in support of the United Way's Day of Service effort on Wednesday, May 30. Teams from Wake Forest Athletics will work at The Food Bank, The Bethesda Center, Exchange/Scan, and Family Services.

"The Day of Service is a wonderful opportunity for those of us who work with Wake Forest Athletics to give back to the community that has been so good to us," said Mike Odom, Wake Forest Assistant Athletic Director for Marketing and Promotions. "It's a great team-building exercise for our group as well, and were looking forward to rolling up our sleeves and working hard to help the four local nonprofit organizations are in need of our help."

Staff from Wake Forest Athletics will assist with the following activities during the Day of Service:

• The Food Bank: Sorting and stocking food along with landscaping.

• The Bethesda Center: will paint, clean and landscape the surroundings and parking lot.

• Exchange/Scan: Painting and putting together office furniture/shelving.

• Family Services: Cleaning, landscaping and painting.

Odom said Wake Forest Athletics is challenging other local businesses and organizations to participate in the United Way Day of Caring program.
