Deacons Finish 37th in Directors' Cup Standings

For the tenth consecutive year, Wake Forest University has finished among the top 50 Division I athletic programs in the country with a 37th place finish in the Learfield Sports Directors' Cup standings.

Wake Forest collected 580.25 points during the 2008-09 season, its second-highest point total ever.

The Demon Deacons finished 45th in the nation with 445.75 points in 2007-08.

Points are awarded based on each team's finish in the NCAA Tournament with the national champion earning 100 points. Wake Forest's field hockey team was the lead point-getter in 2008-09 with 90 points for its second place finish in the national tournament. The men's soccer team earned 83 points for reaching the College Cup (final four) in the fall.

Other Wake Forest teams collecting Directors' Cup points included men's tennis (64), women's golf (62.25), women's soccer (50), men's indoor track (49.5), men's golf (46.5), football (45 points), men's outdoor track (40), men's basketball (25), and women's tennis (25).

Wake Forest's program total of 580.25 points was the second-highest ever achieved. The record is the 708.5 points earned during the 2006-07 year when Wake finished at an all-time high of 23rd in the nation. The Demon Deacons have finished higher than 37th just four times since the 1993-94 season.

Five out of seven spring sports teams reached the NCAA Tournament while four of seven fall teams qualified for postseason.
