WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – From August 22-29, the Wake Forest Tennis Complex will play host to the Winston-Salem Open. This year’s ATP World Tour 250 Event is the fifth year of competition for the tournament, which has had some of the best players in the world year-in and year-out like Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, John Isner, Andy Roddick and Tomas Berdych, among many others.

This year’s tournament will welcome 48 of the world’s top players and 16 of the top doubles tandems. The singles field, which was released in July, features 16 players in the top 50 of the ATP rankings with Tsonga, David Goffin and Viktor Troicki all in the top 20. The doubles field will be released at a later date.

Other top players coming to this year’s Winston-Salem Open include Americans Sam Querrey and Steve Johnson, Spaniards Roberto Bautista Agut and Guillermo Garcia-Lopez, German Tommy Haas and rising stars Thomaz Bellucci of Brazil and Borna Coric of Croatia.

Last year, two members of the Wake Forest men’s tennis team – Noah Rubin and Jon Ho – competed in the Winston-Salem Open. Rubin earned a wild card selection into the main draw and took on American Bradley Klahn in the first round. Rubin put up a tough battle against Klahn but ultimately fell 6-2, 0-6, 7-6 (5). Ho, a wild card selection into the qualifying rounds, topped Quinton Vega in the first round before falling to Jason Jung in the second round. In the 2013 tournament, the Deacs’ Romain Bogaerts earned a wild card draw into the tournament’s main draw but dropped his first-round match to Yen-Hsun Lu, who made a run to the tournament’s quarterfinals before falling to semifinalist Alexandr Dolgopolov.
