Live Webcasting Of Deacon Sports Scheduled To Begin Friday

Sept. 20, 2006

Turner Broadcasting will webcast 40 Wake Forest sports home events during the 2006-07 academic year, beginning with Friday night's WFU-Georgia Tech volleyball game at 7 p.m. Two other Deacon home events on Saturday - a field hockey game vs. No. 1 Maryland at 1 p.m. and a men's soccer game at 7 p.m., also vs. Maryland, are scheduled for webcast.

Turner is webcasting 40 home events at each ACC school this academic year.

Please note that, especially this weekend, the live webcast of Wake Forest home games is contingent on ironing out several technical issues. We are working with Turner all this week to get these problems resolved.

What is webcasting?

Webcasting is the same as televising an event, only it is seen over the internet on not on a TV.

Why is Wake Forest and the ACC doing this?

Webcasting helps answer our needs for coverage of Olympic sports. It is a great tool for recruiting and equally important, it is a great platform for our fans and parents.

How does it work?

Turner provides the production and the technology but it will be an ACC branded product called ACC select.

Will it look and sound like a real television broadcast?

For the most part, yes. It will be live video streaming, so you can watch the games live. There will be multiple cameras, but not as many camera angles as you would see for say an ESPN football broadcast. In some cases, there will be announcers and in others there will just be video and natural sound. Quite candidly, we are not entirely sure what Turner's plans are for the entire year. When there are announcers, mostly it will be undergraduate broadcasting students.

In short, you won't get all the bells and whistles and fancy graphics of Monday Night Football. However, it should be a quality broadcast.

Where do I find it on the internet?

Directly at There should also be a link on our website, If you go to you will see a schedule of upcoming games involving all ACC schools.

What sports will be webcast?

For the most part, Olympic sports. This fall, several Wake Forest field hockey, volleyball, men's and women's soccer games are on the schedule. Women's basketball will have up to nine games webcast this season. In the spring, baseball will be the biggest player. The entire schedule has not been set - it is determined by Turner although we have given them as much input as we can.

Golf, tennis, track, cross country - these sports are more difficult from a production standpoint. That does not mean they will be shut out, especially down the road. Again, we do not have the schedule past late December.

Do you have to have broadband?

Where will the product be available?

ACC Select will be available in the United States on all ISPs. Blackout restrictions may apply to certain areas during specific live events.

Is there a cost involved?

Yes. Single event purchases are $3.99 each, and for a limited time, charter members can purchase the monthly All Event Pass for $5.99. At some point, the All Event monthly price will increase to $9.99/month - but charter members will be grandfathered at the $5.99/month price for as long as they maintain their original membership.

Will football and men's basketball be a part of the package?

At this time, no. We'd like to see them webcast men's basketball exhibition games, but we don't have an answer at this time.

Will ACC Championships be on the service?

The goal is for all ACC Championship events that are not currently televised to be available on the service.

Since they are going to pre-sell events, what happens if an event is postponed or canceled?

The majority of postponed games will be rescheduled, so consumers can check back for time/date information. Refunds will be issued for canceled events.

How do consumers reach Customer Service?

Consumers can call 1-888-339-7529 any time between 10:30am and 12:00am EST.
