Wake Forest Ninth In First Directors' Cup Standings

Wake Forest, boosted by strong performances by the field hockey and women's cross country teams, is ranked ninth in the first Sports Academy Directors' Cup standings of the 2006-07 year.

The Directors' Cup rank institutions based on overall performance in men's and women's athletics. The initial rankings include points scored from field hockey and men's and women's cross country.

Wake Forest has compiled 110 points so far, the result of the field hockey team's second-place finish in the NCAA Tournament (90 points) and the women's cross country team's 27th-place finish (20 points) at the NCAA Championships.

Colorado ranks first overall with 190 points, 10 points ahead of 12-time defending champion Stanford. Wisconsin is in third place, followed by Virginia and Arkansas. Duke (6th), Wake Forest (9th) and Maryland (10th) give the ACC four schools in the top 10. NC State is in 18th place, Florida State in 34th, Virginia Tech in 37th and North Carolina in 39th.
