WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest Athletics was in the community last weekend delivering presents to local children as part of the 28th annual Santa's Helpers program.

A number of Demon Deacons stayed on campus following their final exams to help with the event, wrapping over 500 gifts on Friday and delivering them to 126 familis on Saturday.

Not only did the Deacons spread holiday cheer locally through Santa's Helpers, but they also tripled the amount of gifts this year for Operation Christmas Child, an international mission.

The Santa's Helpers program was started in 1986 by Wake Forest football player Chip Rives. The program has helped provide holiday presents to children in Winston-Salem every year since its inception. Rives was featured on the cover of Sports Illustrated in 1987 as the magazine honored "Athletes Who Care" with its Sportsmen and Sportswomen of the Year.
