Deacs Finish Competition at Camel City Invitational

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – A second-place finish by the women’s 4x400m relay team and a third-place finish from the men’s relay capped the final day of competition at the Camel City Invitational Saturday at the JDL Fast Track.

The women’s 4x400m relay team, consisting of Cydney Delley, Jordan Banks, Grace Hofferber and Sarah Johnson finished second with a time of 3:51.29. The time was the best time by the women this season and the fastest indoor time by the Deacs since a 3:50.79 time in 2010-11.

The men’s relay team, complete with Noah Shute, Kaleb Bryant, Matt Konigsberg and Dakota Greenwalt, crossed the line third with a time of 3:21.76.

Janese Lynch and Alva Hicks finished eighth and ninth, respectively, in the women’s shot put Saturday morning. Lynch threw a best mark of 14.30m (46-11) while Hicks checked in at 13.54m (33-5.25).

On the track, Jordan Banks finished 11th in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.92 while Sarah Johnson and Cydney Delley finished 14th and 15th in the women’s 200m. Johnson clocked in at 25.78 while Delly crossed the line 25.88.

On Friday, the first day of competition at the Camel City Invitational, Hicks broke her own school record in the weight throw to highlight competition. The Deacs also accounted for five top-five finishes including Tesia Kempski claiming her third pole vault title of the season.

Up next, the Demon Deacons will split up for a trio of meets. The Deacs will compete at the JDL Team Challenge on Feb. 8 and at the Iowa City Classic and Vanderbilt Music City Challenge Feb. 9-10.
