Wake Forest concluded competition at the Music City Challenge and Iowa State Classic

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Wake Forest men’s and women’s track and field programs closed out competition Saturday at a pair of meets.
Seventeen student-athletes competed in the Vanderbilt’s Music City Challenge while Robert Heppenstall and Sebastian Fischbach ran at the Iowa State Classic.
At Iowa State, Heppenstall finished second in his heat and fifth overall in a fierce men’s 800m competition. First place and fifth place were separated by less than a second with Heppenstall recording a time of 1:48.05.
Fischbach crossed the line 12th overall in the mile with a time of 4:05.39, less than three seconds away from the school record time of 4:02.71.
At the Music City Challenge, the women’s 4x400m relay team crossed the line 12th with a time of 3:48.07, the best time run by the Deacon women team this season. Last week at the Camel City Invitational, the team went 3:51.29, which was the best time by the women’s squad since 2010.
On the track for the women, Sam Halvorsen finished seventh in the 3000m with a time of 9:46.26 while in her first-ever collegiate track meet, Anna Campbell ran 10:29.99.
Lara-Ann Schwede crossed the finish line at 2:12.97 in the women’s 800m while Kaitlin Derry clocked in at 2:16.14 in her first-ever 800m.
In the men’s 3000m Mitchell Dyer paced the Deacs at 8:21.61, good for 16th. Also in the event, Jack Tiernan posted a time of 8:24.43 and Tommy Johnston crossed the line with a time of 8:26.90. Dakota Greenwalt shaved two seconds off of his previous personal best to take 11th in the men’s 800m with a time of 1:52.81.
In the field, Tesia Kempski tied for 18th in the pole vault after clearing the 3.65m (11-11.75) bar.
Up next, the Demon Deacons will participate in the UCS Invitational Feb. 16-17 before heading to Clemson for the ACC Indoor Championships Feb. 22-24.
