Abrahamson Earns Seventh at NCAA Championships

EUGENE, Ore. – Wake Forest women’s track and field senior Ellie Abrahamson finished seventh in the women’s 3000m steeplechase national final at the NCAA Championships on Saturday with a school record time of 9:56.18.

Abrahamson entered the competition already the Wake Forest school record holder in the event but she managed to shave four seconds off her semifinal time of 10:00.02.

Entering this outdoor season, the Wake Forest school record in the 3000m steeplechase sat at 10:34.72. Abrahamson smashed that record in her first steeplechase event since the 2015 outdoor season with a 10:09.59 performance at the Virginia Challenge. She lowered her time to 10:06.42 at the ACC Championships before recording 10:00.39 at the NCAA East Preliminary Round.

Abrahamson had qualified for the finals with a fifth-place finish in her semifinal heat on Thursday to automatically earn a spot in Saturday’s competition.

She was competing in her first NCAA Track and Field Championships and earned First Team All-American honors for the first time in her career with the finish
