BETHLEHEM, Penn. - The Wake Forest men finished ninth overall and the women took 14th at the Paul Short Run, held Friday morning at the Goodman Campus Cross Country course in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.

The men competed in the 40-team Gold 8k race while the women raced in the 42-team Gold 6k competition.

Competing in their first-ever collegiate races, Mitchell Day paced the Wake Forest men with his 29th-place finish with a time of 24:08 while Daniel Viegra finished in 48th with a time of 24:27. Craig Corti and Mitchell Dyer, competing for the first time this season, took 56th and 67th respectively. Also running in his first-ever collegiate competition, William Hunsdale finished with a time of 25:18.

“Today’s meet was our first time out with this team together so I thought the men and women did a pretty good job,” said head coach John Hayes. “Both teams will continue to get better throughout the season as we race more but I am very excited about where we are heading into the month of October.”

On the women's side, Samantha Halvorsen led the Deacs with a 30th-place finish and a time of 20:36. In her first competition as a Demon Deacon, Florida-transfer Hannah Brookover crossed the line second for the team and 46th overall with a time of 20:47.

"There was a lot to take away from this race today," said women's head coach Michelle Chewens. "We have a lot of work to do but I look forward to seeing steady improvement in the upcoming weeks."

Wake Forest will now prepare for the Pre-National Invitational, which will be held Oct. 14 in Louisville, Kentucky.
