About Achilles... Tri-captain for 2006 season... hard-working infielder who gives 100 percent every day in practice... his versatility allows him to play any position on the diamond and play them well... has started games at first base, second base and right field... also spent the fall working out behind the plate... comes from an outstanding family... is the son of Marie, who drives from Lynchburg, Va., to attend as many games as possible and Doug, who passed away last fall, but remains a constant source of inspiration... the younger brother of former Deacon infielder Todd Achilles... a communications major... born June 11, 1983.

In 2005... Appeared in 21 games and started in 13... batted .254 with a home run and eight RBI... he made starts at three different positions, first base, second base and right field... played in eight ACC games, starting four, and batted .381 with seven runs scored and one RBI... banged out a career-high four hits, including a pair of doubles on May 17 at High Point... was nearly perfect in the field with a .989 fielding percentage, committing just one error... recorded four multi-hit games... hitless in his first 19 career at bats before he drilled a game-tying, solo home run in the bottom of the eighth inning in a victory over Winthrop.

In 2004... Sat out with medical redshirt.

In 2003... Saw action in nine games including two ACC contests... reached base four times in nine plate appearances... scored two runs... had three plate appearances against Albany on March 6 with two walks and an RBI sacrifice fly.

In 2002... Appeared in two games in the NCAA Winston-Salem Regional... had one at-bat against Navy and caught the final out of the game... pinch-ran against Richmond... saw action in four games overall... made three plate appearances as a freshman... walked and scored against Davidson on May 1... was flawless in the field, compiling a 1.000 fielding percentage in three chances.

Prior to Wake Forest... All-Region and All-District first team as a junior and a senior... helped lead his team to a Region III Championship and a berth in the Virginia title game... batted .495 for Post 16 with 27 stolen bases in 2001... was named MVP of the World Youth Classic Championship in 2001... coached by Dennis Knight at Heritage High School... was an Academic All-State selection for three years.
