THE BOOK ON HANSON: The top set-up man for his first two years... had an outstanding summer for Cotuit of the Cape Cod League, making an All-Star appearance as a closer... has a three-quarter delivery... has good control... throws a fastball in the low-90's with excellent movement, a curveball, a good change-up, a splitter and a slider which makes him a strikeout pitcher... difficult to hit because each of his pitches has different movement... may move into the starting rotation.


  • Appeared in 33 games as a sophomore, including 12 against ACC opponents... tossed 3.2 innings of scoreless relief against top-ranked Florida State... allowed just two earned runs in seven innings of work in the NCAA Tournament, both appearances vs. Richmond... equaled a career-long outing on June 1 with five innings, allowing just one run on two hits with three strikeouts... made three appearances in the ACC Tournament with 3.52 ERA in 7.2 innings... got off to a stellar start with 10 straight appearances from February 21 through March 11 without allowing an earned run, a streak spanning 18 innings... during that stretch, Hanson fanned 16 batters... got the save on February 24 vs. Cincinnati... picked up wins against New Mexico, Cincinnati and New Orleans... struck out the side against Davidson on opening day, Nebraska on February 17 and Appalachian State on March 5.

  • Spent the last two summers with Cotuit of the Cape Cod League... earned a spot on the 2002 West All-Star team... finished the season with a 1-1 mark, a 1.82 ERA and seven saves in 21 appearances... struck out 36 Cape hitters in 34.2 innings of work.


  • Appeared in 12 of Wake Forest's 24 ACC contests... picked up the win in relief against Virginia with 3.1 innings pitched, two runs on four hits... threw two innings of scoreless relief the next day against the `Hoos... tied for third in the ACC with appearances in 12 league games... came out of the pen twice against Clemson, on Friday and Sunday... got a win at UNC with two innings of work and two strikeouts... picked up his first career ACC win in relief against Duke... threw in all three games at the Rice Coca-Cola Classic including two shutout innings of relief against nationally-ranked Rice... earned his first career win after throwing 3.2 innings of scoreless relief against Penn State while giving up just one hit... made his career debut in the season opener against James Madison.


  • The New Jersey Prep Player of the Year in 1998 and 2000 while at Lawrenceville... led the Big Red to the Garden State Championship in 2000... a three-time all-state first team selection... three-time recipient of the Jackson Weaks Osborn Trophy, awarded to the team's most valuable player... a three-time member of the All-Mercer County first team.


  • Full name is Mark Adam Hanson... a psychology major... his parents are Mark and Chris Hanson... a Cape Cod League All-Star for the Cotuit Kettleers during the summer of 2002... went to the same high school as Huey Lewis and Calista Flockhart.
