THE BOOK ON HUBBARD: A natural infielder who settled into the vacated left fielder position last season... also played second base for the Deacons last spring... a lead-off type switch hitter with blinding speed and surprising power for his size... handles the bat well... was originally drafted out of high school by Atlanta... Cypress JC coach Scott Pickler calls Hubbard a competitor in the mold of current Deacon volunteer assistant coach Scott Daeley, former Cypress and Wake Forest standout.

2002: JUNIOR YEAR

  • Got off to a slow start after off-season arm surgery but finished very strong with a nine-game hitting streak... ended the year with a .274 average, seven home runs and 28 RBI... scored 49 runs... batted .615 in the postseason with three hits against George Washington, two hits against NC State and Richmond... drove in the game-winning run on four occasions including a ninth-inning single in a 3-2 win against New Mexico... had the game-winning RBI with an eighth inning single at New Orleans... had 17 multi-hit games... launched a grand slam against North Carolina on April 6 with a season-best four RBI... homered against Nebraska, New Orleans, NC State, Maryland, Charlotte, UNC Greensboro and North Carolina... stole three bases in games against Cincinnati and Liberty... 17 of his runs batted in came with two outs.

    CYPRESS JUNIOR COLLEGE / HUNTINGTON BEACH HS

  • Attended both schools with current teammate Jeff Ruziecki... batted .382 with five home runs and 14 stolen bases for Cypress Junior College in California... first team all-conference as a freshman at Cypress and earned second team honors despite having his season cut short by injury... named two-time MVP at Huntington Beach HS... coached there by Mike Dodd... recipient of the Principal's Award for best grade point average on high school team.
