The selfless bullpen catcher of the Demon Deacons... battled illness each of the past two years... a tireless worker who helps in the day-to-day development of the pitching staff... spent his summer as the bullpen catcher for the Brewster Whitecaps in the Cape Cod League working with some of the best pitchers college baseball has to offer in 2003... parents are Mary and Joe Portnoy... has two siblings that also attend Wake Forest... an economics major... born February 3, 1983 in St. Louis, Mo.

Technically, was the team's leading hitter, batting .500... played in two games, on March 6 against Albany and April 22 against Liberty... ripped a single against the Flames for his first career base hit... eventually stood 90 feet from scoring his first career run but was stranded on third base by first team All-American Jamie D'Antona.

In 2002:
Saw limited action while working almost exclusively with the pitching staff... had just one at-bat on the season, a late-game pinch-hitting appearance against Appalachian State, a 22-3 win on March 5... he fouled out to first base.
