In game one, junior Eric Schmitt (1-0) picked up the win for the Deacs after tossing eight shutout innings. Schmitt allowed just seven base hits -- six singles and one double -- while walking two and striking out five batters. The Demon Deacons, who jumped out to a 10- lead after three innings, pounded out 17 hits in the game, including three hits each from Jon Palmieri, Scott Daeley, Ben Danosky and Danny Borrell. Palmieri finished the doubleheader batting 6-for-8 with three home runs and six RBI. Evansville starter Ryan Miller (0-1) took the loss for the Purple Aces, allowing five runs in 0.2 innings of work. In game two, Evansville freshman Preston Larrison (1-0) tossed a complete game to pick up the win for Evansville, allowing five runs on seven hits while striking out six batters in seven innings. Wake Forest starter J.J. Moult (0-1) took the loss after failing to retire any of the five batters he faced.

The Purple Aces jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the top of the first inning, capped by a three-run homer from Vince Serafini. Wake Forest battled back to trip the lead to 5-3 with two runs in their half of the first and a single run in the second, but the Aces plated three insurance runs in the top of the sixth to put the game out of reach. Doug Schoenekase and Brett Motz delivered key RBI-singles in that decisive inning for Evansville.

Wake Forest will return to action on Wednesday when the Demon Deacons host Davidson at 2:30 p.m. at Hooks Stadium.
