HOUSTON -- The Wake Forest baseball team fell to Nicholls by a 12-5 margin at Schroeder Park on Saturday afternoon.

Johnny Aiello led the Demon Deacons (1-2), going 2-for-3 with a home run, hit by pitch and two runs scored. Patrick Frick added two hits and an RBI.

Wake Forest opened the scoring with back-to-back doubles by Jonathan Pryor and Stuart Fairchild in the first inning, followed by a Gavin Sheets RBI single to make it 2-0.

Frick added an RBI double of his own in the fourth inning, pushing the lead to 3-0.

Nicholls (1-1) took the lead with five fourth-inning runs, two of them unearned.

Keegan Maronpot scored on an overthrow on an Aiello infield single to make it 5-4, but the Colonels responded with another big inning, taking advantage of two walks and another error in a three-run fifth inning.

Ethan Valdez added a two-run homer to push the Nicholls lead to 10-4 in the seventh.

Aiello's longball went off the top of the hitter's eye beyond the center field wall in the eighth to cut the margin to 10-5, before the Colonels scored two more in the bottom of the inning.

Gage Teer and Alex Tucker led Nicholls with three hits apiece. Daniel Goff (1-0) earned the win in relief, allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits in 4.0 innings.

Morgan McSweeney (0-1) took the loss for Wake Forest, surrendering four runs (two earned) in 0.2 innings. John McCarren started and gave up three runs in 3.1 frames.

Wake Forest allowed seven walks and committed three errors, compared to two walks and one error for Nicholls.

The Deacs are back in action Sunday, taking on Houston at 1 p.m. CT.
