HOUSTON -- The Wake Forest baseball team closed out its opening weekend with a 5-4 loss at No. 20 Houston at Schroeder Park on Sunday afternoon.

Griffin Roberts tossed 2.1 scoreless innings in relief with four strikeouts, while Jonathan Pryor went 2-for-4 with an RBI on offense.

The Demon Deacons (1-3) fell behind, 3-0, thanks to an unearned run in each of the first three innings.

Wake Forest battled back in the fourth, scoring a pair of runs on a Stuart Fairchild RBI double and Keegan Maronpot sacrifice fly, cutting the margin to 3-2.

Houston (3-0) added another run in the bottom of the inning, as Grayson Padgett beat out an infield single and Jordan Monacy came around to score from second, making the score 4-2.

The Deacs came knotted the score at 4-4 in the eighth. Jake Mueller led off with a single and Patrick Frick drew a walk, followed by a Jonathan Pryor RBI single. Then, a balk brought home Frick to tie the game.

With two outs in the bottom of the eighth, Connor Wong singled, stole second and scored on a Padgett double for what proved to be the game-winner. Wong and Padgett combined for six of Houston's 10 hits.

John King started for Houston and received a no decision, allowing two unearned rons on three hits in 7.0 innings. Brayson Hurdsman earned the win with 2.0 perfect frames in relief.

Donnie Sellers started for the Deacs and allowed four runs (one earned) in 3.2 innings. Houston native Chris Farish also tossed a scoreless inning in relief, while Drew Loepprich was saddled with the loss.

Wake Forest returns home on Tuesday, taking on UNCG at 4 p.m.
