No. 21 Wake Forest Basball Downs Davidson, 10-4

February 18, 1999

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Senior left-hander John Hendricks tossed eight strong innings and catcher Andrew Riepe went 3-for-4 with two RBI to lead No. 21 Wake Forest (3-1) to a 10-4 victory over Davidson (0-4) on Thursday afternoon at Hooks Stadium.

Hendricks (1-0), making his first start of the season, allowed two runs on five hits -- all singles -- while walking one batter and striking out seven. The victory was his 25th of his career, moving him into sole possession of second place on Wake Forest's all-time victory list.

Fritz Porter (0-1) took the loss for the Wildcats, allowing four runs in 0.2 innings of relief.

Davidson took a 2-0 lead in the top of the third inning on a two-RBI single by Brian Joyce, but the Demon Deacons responded to take a 3-2 lead in the fifth when Jon Palmieri capped off the frame with a RBI single. Palmieri finished the afternoon with two hits in five at bats.

Wake Forest added three more runs in both the sixth and seventh innings to put the game out of reach. Riepe, Chase Voshell and Jason Aquilante all delivered RBIs in those innings for the Demon Deacons.

Wake Forest will return to action this weekend when the Demon Deacons travel to Georgia for a two-game series with the Bulldogs on Saturday at 3 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m.
