WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Wake Forest's bats came to life as the Demon Deacons defeated UNCG, 15-8, in the home-opener at David F. Couch Ballpark on Tuesday evening.

Jonathan Pryor had a career day for the Demon Deacons (2-3), finishing 5-for-5 with a double, home run and five RBIs. He was also hit by a pitch and scored three runs.

Stuart Fairchild also went deep, finishing 2-for-4 with a homer, two RBIs and a walk.

John McCarren entered with the Deacs trailing 3-2 and kept them in the game, tossing 3.0 scoreless innings. He struck out a pair and allowed just two hits and a walk to earn the win and improve to 1-0.

Holden White and Shane Kubrak each pitched in relief and retired the only batters they faced, while Griffin Roberts tossed 0.2 scoreless frames to close the game.

Wake Forest finished the day 18-for-41 at the plate, with Logan Harvey (double, walk, two RBIs), Ben Breazeale, Johnny Aiello (double, walk, two runs) and Jake Mueller (two runs, two RBIs) also recording multi-hit efforts.

The Deacs jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning on a Harvey double and Gavin Sheets sac fly. The Spartans (1-3) responded with three runs in the second, before Wake Forest broke open for six in the third.

Fairchild got it started with a solo blast. Aiello and Mueller chipped in RBI singles before Pryor's 411-foot blast down the right-field line put the Deacs in front 8-3.

Pryor kept the scoring going in the fifth with an RBI double, followed by additional RBIs from Fairchild and Sheets to extend the margin to 11-3.

Zach Seal (two HBPs) and Chase Mascolo (1-for-2) also made their Demon Deacon debuts, reaching base in their first-career plate appearances.

The Deacs return to action this weekend, playing host to Southern Cal in a three-game series from Friday-Sunday.
