Elon Downs Wake Forest Baseball Team, 11-1

ELON COLLEGE, NC - Elon's Scott Brendle hit three home runs and drove in five runs to lead the Fighting Christians to a 11-1 victory over Wake Forest Tuesday afternoon at Newsome Field. Elon improved their season record to 9-2 with the victory while Wake Forest fell to 6-2.

Brendle homered in the first, third and sixth innings and finished the afternoon with four hits in five at bats. Mike Deike added a solo home run for Elon in the sixth while Luis Falcon went 3-for-3 with three RBI.

Elon starting pitcher T.J. Donovan (3-0) picked up the win, tossing eight innings. He allowed one unearned run on four hits and five walks while striking out four batters.

Eric Schmitt (1-1) started and took the loss for Wake Forest after allowing four runs in 2 2/3 innings of work.

The Demon Deacons scored their only run of the afternoon in the sixth inning when Jon Palmieri doubled, took third on a wild pitch and came around to score on a Andrew Riepe groundout. Chris Turner, who entered the game as a pinch hitter in the seventh inning, finished th afternoon with two hits in two at bats while Scott Siemon shined on the mound for the Deacs, picking up four strikeouts in 1 1/3 shutout innings.

Wake Forest returns to action on Wednesday when the Deacs host Appalachian State at 2:30 p.m. at Hooks stadium on campus.
