No. 22 Wake Forest Downs Virginia Tech, 4-2
Hendricks tosses complete game victory for the Demon Deacons.

WINSTON-SALEM, NC - Wake Forest's John Hendricks tossed a complete
game to lead 22nd-ranked Demon Deacons to a 4-2 victory over visiting
Virginia Tech on Saturday afternoon at Hooks Stadium.
With the victory, Wake Forest improves its record to 5-3 on the
season, while Virginia Tech drops to 1-2.
Hendricks (2-1), who tossed his 14th career complete game, allowed
just one earned run on eight hits in the game. He walked two batters while
striking out seven. Larry Bowles (0-1) suffered the loss for the Hokies
after giving up three runs on six hits in 6.1 innings of work.
Virginia Tech took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fifth inning when
John West singled and eventually scored on a wild pitch. Wake Forest took a
2-1 lead in the bottom of the frame on a two-run homer by Corey Slavik, his
second of the season.
The Hokies' Matt Griswold tied the score in the top of the sixth
with a leadoff solo home run, his second long ball of the year.
With the score still tied at 2-2 in the seventh inning, the Demon
Deacons' Scott Daeley delivered a bases-loaded RBI single to plate Carlos
Brackley and give Wake Forest a 3-2 lead. Andrew Riepe blasted a solo home
run, his second of the year, in the eighth inning to make the final score
4-2.
Brackley finished the day with three hits in four at bats while
Riepe went 2-for-4. Virginia Tech's Addison Bowman went 3-for-4 on the
afternoon.
Wake Forest and Virginia Tech will conclude their two-game series
on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
