Dothan, Ala. - Wake Forest split its doubleheader with Troy after falling 1-0 in the second game Saturday in the Screentech Wiregrass Classic.

The Deacs (3-4) had a chance to tie when Allan Dykstra led off the top of the ninth with a walk and Brett Linnenkohl singled to deep right center field, moving Dykstra to third base with one out.

Wake's Evan Ocheltree struck out swinging for the second out and Mike Murray lined out to left field to end the threat and end the game.

Troy (7-1) closer Josh Storm recorded the save for the Trojans.

The Trojans' lone run came in the bottom of the fourth inning when Lance Miller singled through the middle of the infield, scoring Beau Brooks, who led-off the inning with a double down the right field line.

Wake Forest starter Charlie Mellies struck out eight and allowed one run on six hits in seven and one-third innings.

"I wasn't doing so well the first couple of innings," Mellies said. "In the later innings I felt like my changeup and my off-speed pitches were getting in there. We had a couple of opportunities that we just missed. It was a good game between two really good teams."

The Deacs were held to four hits in the second game and left six men on base.

Wake Forest will face Penn State in the Deacs' fourth and final game of the Screentech Classic Sunday at 10 a.m. Eastern.
