WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Outfielder Ben Danosky homered and drove in two
runs to lead 25th-ranked Wake Forest to a 7-2 victory over visiting UNC
Charlotte on Thursday afternoon at Hooks Stadium.
With the victory, Wake Forest improves its record to 7-3 on the
season, while UNC Charlotte drops to 2-6.
Mike MacDougal (2-1) picked up the victory for the Deacs after
pitching seven shutout innings. He surrendered just four base hits -- all
singles -- while walking two batters and striking out eight. Scott Siemon
earned his third save of the year after tossing the last 1.1 innings while
registering three strikeouts.
John McKay (1-3) took the loss for the 49ers after allowing three
runs in 5.1 innings.
Danosky, who went 4-for-5 in the game, got Wake Forest on the
scoreboard first in the bottom of the fifth inning with a RBI single that
plated Jason Aquilante. After the Demon Deacons pushed the lead to 3-0 with
two unearned runs in the sixth, Danosky and Jon Palmieri blasted
back-to-back solo home runs in the seventh inning to make the score 5-0.
The round-tripper was the second of the season for Danosky and the sixth of
the year for Palmieri.
UNC Charlotte battled to cut the lead to 5-2 in the top of the
eighth with a two-run double by Jason Hill, but Wake Forest answered in the
bottom of the frame with a two-run homer by Chase Voshell, his third of the
season. Voshell finished the game 2-for-3 with three RBI.
Wake Forest will return to action when the Demon Deacons take on
5th-ranked Auburn on Friday at 6 p.m. in Montgomery, Ala.
