Baseball Wins on Final Day of Blue-Gray Classic

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Wake Forest Demon Deacons and the Auburn Tigers both took victories in the final day of the 1999 Price Oil Blue-Gray Classic Sunday here at Paterson Field.

Wake Forest fell down 4-0 in the first three innings to West Virginia, but came back with a run in the fifth, two in the sixth and one apiece in the eighth and ninth to take the 5-4 victory. Matt Briggs (1-0) pitched two innings in relief to pick up the win for the Demon Deacons (9-4). Billy Biggs (2-1) pitched an inning and two-thirds in taking the loss for the Mountaineers (2-7).

In the last game of this year's Classic, the fifth-ranked Auburn Tigers got a strong pitching performance from Hayden Gliemmo to defeat the Northwestern Wildcats 6-2. Gliemmo pitched nine innings, giving up two runs on just four hits. He set his career record for strikeouts with 13, walked none and improved his record to 6-1. John Tyler hit his first career home run for the Tigers (18-2). Phil Rosengren pitched seven innings, giving up six runs on six hits to take the loss for Northwestern (4-7).
