BOONE, N.C. - Michael Dimock allowed just one run in 6 2/3 innings pitched to pick up the first win of his collegiate career as Wake Forest downed Appalachian State 3-1 on Tuesday afternoon at Smith Stadium.

With the win, Wake Forest improves to 8-8 on the season, while Appalachian State drops to 6-11 on the year.

Dimock threw the best outing of his collegiate career, allowing just one run on six hits in 6 2/3 innings to pick up his first win as a Demon Deacon. He struck out five and walked two. Nick Daniels suffered the loss, giving up a run on two hits in 2 2/3 innings. Zach White picked up the first save of his collegiate career, throwing 2 1/3 hitless innings and striking out two.

Weldon Woodall had a team-high two hits, including his third home run of the season. Austin Stadler also drove in a run for the Deacs. Mike Murray tied a career high with three walks.

The Deacs had two good scoring chances in the first three innings. In the top of the first, Dustin Hood reached on a one-out single up the middle and moved to second on a walk by Murray. Evan Ocheltree and Carlos Lopez each struck out to end the threat. In the third, Micah Jarrett hit a one-out single to left and moved to second after Murray drew a two-out walk. Ocheltree struck out looking to end the inning and keep Wake Forest off the scoreboard.

Appalachian State struck first with a run in the third. Jeremy Dowdy was hit by a pitch with one out and moved to second on a two-out single by Rand Smith. A single by Nick DeRose that hit off the glove of a diving Carlos Lopez at third base scored Dowdy and sent Smith to third. DeRose moved to second on the throw to third. Wes Hobson was hit by a pitch to load the bases with two outs. Dimock got Isaac Harrow to strike out looking to end the inning and hold ASU to one run in the inning.

Wake Forest evened the game with a run in the top of the fourth. Lopez doubled to the left-center field alley to open the inning and moved to third on a double by Weldon Woodall that just alluded the ASU centerfielder. After Shane Kroker popped out to the second baseman, Stadler hit a sacrifice fly to right field to score Lopez and tie the game at one.

The Demon Deacons took their first lead in the top of the sixth. Woodall led off the inning with his third home run of the season, over the wall in left field to give the Deacs a 2-1 lead.

Wake Forest had a chance to add on to its lead in the top of the seventh. Jarrett reached to lead off the inning on a fielding error by the shortstop. A sacrifice bunt by Hood moved Jarrett to second. Murray walked, but was retired at second base when Ocheltree grounded into a fielder's choice. Lopez walked to load the bases with two outs. Woodall struck out looking to end the threat and leave the bases loaded.

Appalachian State had a good scoring chance in the bottom of the seventh. Jason Wallace led off the inning with a single to center and moved to second on a fielding error by the left fielder. A sacrifice bunt by Smith moved Wallace to third. With the infield in and one out, DeRose grounded out to short for the second out of the inning. The Deacs brought in White to relieve Dimock. White struck out Hobson looking to end the inning and keep Wake Forest in front 2-1.

Wake Forest added an insurance run in the top of the eighth inning. Kroker led off the inning with a triple, the first of his collegiate career, to the right-center field gap. Stadler walked to put runners at the corners with no outs. Smith grounded into a 4-6-3 double play to score Kroker and give the Demon Deacons a 3-1 lead.

White retired the Mountaineers in order in the ninth to give the Deacs a 3-1 win.
