No. 23 Baseball Falls to No. 3 UNC-Chapel Hill, 9-3

Chapel Hill, NC - Ryan Earey went 2-for-4 with four RBI to lead third-ranked North Carolina to a 9-3 victory over No. 23 Wake Forest on Sunday afternoon at Boshamer Stadium, in a game that was halted with one out in the top of the ninth inning due to inclement weather.

With the victory, North Carolina improved to 20-2 overall and 2-1 in the Atlantic Coast Conference while Wake Forest dropped to 15-6 and 3-2 in ACC play.

Ryan Snare (2-0) earned the victory for the Tar Heels after allowing three runs on seven hits in eight innings of work. He issued one walk and struck out seven batters. Wake Forest's Eric Schmitt (2-1) took the loss after surrendering five runs in five-plus innings.

For the third straight game in the series the Demon Deacons scored first when they took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Jason Aquilante walked and scored on a wild pitch and Jon Palmieri singled and scored on a Tar Heel error. Wake Forest took a 3-0 lead in the fourth when Chase Voshell delivered a RBI single to plate Danny Borrell.

North Carolina cut the lead to 3-2 when Ryan Earey belted a two-run double to left field that scored Chris LaMarsh and Jarrett Shearin. The Tar Heels took a 7-3 lead with five runs in the sixth inning, capped by a three-run homer from Ryan Blake. North Carolina added an insurance runs in the seventh and eighth innings to make the score 9-3.

Wake Forest will return to action when the Demon Deacons visit East Tennessee State on Wednesday at 5 p.m.
