Wake Forest Baseball Defeats Elon 10-5

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Sunny Chiou's seventh inning grand slam broke open a 6-5 game and helped Wake Forest defeat Elon 10-5 in college baseball action at Hooks Stadium on Tuesday afternoon. Wake Forest improves to 20-12 with the win while Elon falls to 15-14.

The long ball was Chiou's second grand slam of the season and his fourth home run of the year. Entering the season, the senior had two career home runs.

Wake Forest starter Jeremy Ward (4-5) picked up the win while Elon's Chris Hughes (2-4) took the loss. Deacon senior Peter Princi entered the game with two outs in the sixth and closed the game for Wake Forest to earn his first save of the year. Princi retired the first eight batters he faced and earned his sixth strike out against Elon's Scott Clark to end the game with the bases loaded. The Deacons scored two runs each in the second, third and fourth innings before Elon answered with two runs in the top of the fifth. Right fielder Scott Brendle hit a three run homer for Elon in the top of the sixth with two outs and the count full off Wake reliever Tim Schilling to make the score 6-5.

Wake Forest travels to Davidson on Wednesday for a 3 p.m. start before returning home on Friday to face North Carolina at 3 p.m. in the first game of a three game ACC series.
