Wake Forest Homers Past Davidson, 12-6

DAVIDSON, N.C. - Wake Forest batters combined for five home runs, including two by junior Andrew Riepe, to lead the Demon Deacons to a 12-6 victory over Davidson on Wednesday afternoon at Wildcat Park in Davidson, NC. With the victory, Wake Forest improves its record to 21-12 while Davidson fell to 6-23.

Riepe hit a solo shot in the fourth inning and then added a two-run home run in the sixth inning and finished the afternoon 3-for-5 with three RBI. With the two blasts, Riepe raised his season total to seven home runs. Corey Slavik hit a solo homer to left field in the third inning, his third of the season, while Scott Daeley hit a three run blast in the fifth, his first of the year, and Ben Danosky hit a solo homer also in the fifth, his eighth of the season. Both Daeley and Danosky finished 3-for-5 with three RBI apiece. Danny Borrell went 2-for-4 on the afternoon. Wake Forest starter Eric Schmitt (4-1) picked up the win, allowing six runs in 7 1/3 innings of work while striking our eight. Schmitt cruised through the middle innings of the game, retiring 13 straight batters starting in the fourth inning before tiring in the eighth. Freshman Josh Bartlett tossed 1 2/3 scoreless innings of relief of Schmitt. Davidson starter Jamie McDonald (0-6) took the loos, allowing five runs in four innings of work.

With the score tied at 2-2 after three innings, the Demon Deacons scored eight runs over the next two innings to break open the game. Wake Forest returns to action on Friday when the Demon Deacons open a three game Atlantic Coast Conference series with North Carolina at 3 p.m. at Hooks Stadium.
