No. 19 Wake Forest Falls to No. 1 Florida State, 7-4
Baseball wins game one of the three-game ACC Series.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Jeremiah Klosterman went 3-for-4 with three RBI to lead
No. 1 Florida State over 19th-ranked Wake Forest, 7-4, on Friday night at
Dick Howser Stadium in Tallahassee, Fla.
With the victory, Florida State improved to 31-3 overall and 10-0 in
Atlantic Coast Conference play while Wake Forest dropped to 19-8 overall and
6-3 in league action.
Chris Chavez (3-2) picked up the win relief of starter Jon McDonald who
left the game after allowing three runs in 3 1/3 innings. Chavez pitched 3
1/3 innings and allowed one run on four hits while striking out seven
batters. Mike DiBlasi picked up his sixth save of the season after tossing a
scoreless ninth inning to close out the game.
Wake Forest starter Mike MacDougal (6-2) took the loss after allowing five
runs on 12 hits - 11 of which were singles - in six innings of work. He
walked five batters and recorded six strikeouts.
The Seminoles jumped on the scoreboard first, taking a 3-0 lead in the
bottom of the third inning after the first six batters all reached base.
Matt Diaz and Jeremiah Klosterman each drove in runs with singles while Sam
Scott plated a run with a walk.
Wake Forest battled back to tie the score at 3-3 in the top of the fourth.
The Demon Deacons loaded the bases with no outs when Jason Aquilante walked,
Jon Palmieri singled and Ben Danosky walked. A walk from Andrew Riepe plated
the first run of the inning and Corey Slavik drove in two runs with a double
to center field.
Florida State regained the lead with two runs in the bottom of the sixth
inning. Diaz doubled and came around to score on a RBI single from
Klosterman while Scott walked and eventually scored on a RBI single from
Kevin Cash.
Wake Forest cut the lead to 5-4 with a solo home run from Corey Slavik, his
third of the season, to lead off the seventh inning. However, a solo home
run from Bret Groves in the bottom of seventh pushed the Seminole lead back
to two runs. The Seminoles pushed the lead to 7-4 with a RBI single from
John Halliday later in that inning. Diaz and Halliday each went 3-for-5 with
a RBI for the Seminoles. Slavik finished the game 2-for-4 with three RBI for
the Demon Deacons.
Wake Forest and Florida State will continue the three-game series on
Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m.
