TALLAHASSEE, Fla. Nick Stocks tossed eight strong innings and Florida State used a 10-run eighth inning as the No. 1 ranked Seminoles defeated 19th-ranked Wake Forest, 16-3, on Saturday night at Dick Howser Stadium in Tallahassee, Fla.

With the victory, Florida State improved to 32-3 overall and 11-0 in Atlantic Coast Conference play while Wake Forest dropped to 19-9 overall and 6-4 in league action.

Stocks (8-0) allowed four runs on three hits in eight innings of work. He walked two batters and recorded seven strikeouts as he won his eighth straight decision of the season. Zach Diaz tossed a scoreless ninth inning to close out the game.

Wake Forest starter John Hendricks (4-4) took the loss after allowing four runs on six hits in 4 2/3 innings of work. He issued four walks and struck out five batters.

Florida State's Jeremiah Klosterman gave the Seminoles a 2-0 lead in then second inning with a two-run homer, his fourth of the season. The Seminoles pushed the lead to 4-0 when Klosterman and Karl Jernigan each drew bases-loaded walks to drive in runs.

The Demon Deacons cut the lead to 4-3 in the top of the fifth inning. Scott Daeley drew a two-out walk from Stocks and Jason Aquilante followed with a two-run homer to right field, his third of the season. Jon Palmieri then singled and stole second base and Ben Danosky drove him home with a RBI single.

Florida State responded in the bottom of the fifth when Micheal Futrell blasted a two-run homer to left field, his second of the year, to push the lead to 6-3.

The Seminoles put the game out of reach with 10 runs in the eighth inning. Matt Diaz drove in three runs in the inning, Chris Smith had two RBI, while Futrell, Marshall McDougall, John-Ford Griffin, Bobby Spano and Karl Jernigan each had one RBI in the frame. Futrell finished the game 2-for-4 with three RBI while McDougall went 2-for-5 and extended his hitting streak to 26 games. Diaz went 3-for-5 with two RBI in the game for the Seminoles.

Wake Forest and Florida State will conclude the three-game series on Sunday at 1 p.m. in Tallahassee.
