Baseball Downs NC State 7-5

RALEIGH, NC - Junior John Hendricks tossed a complete game to lead Wake Forest to a 7-5 victory over NC State on Friday night at Doak Field in Raleigh, NC.

With the victory, Wake Forest improves its record to 25-14 and 7-8 in the ACC while NC State falls to 25-13 and 7-3 in conference play. Hendricks (8-2) allowed five runs on nine hits and three walks while striking out seven batters. He ran his streak of consecutive innings without allowing an earned run to 24 1/3 before allowing a run to the Wolfpack in the fifth inning.

Wake Forest jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the first inning when the Deacs plated three runs on five hits off NC State starter Kurt Blackmon (7-4). Wake Forest added single runs in the third, fifth, sixth and eighth innings. NC State scored all five of their runs in the fifth inning on four hits and three walks. The Wolfpack was aided by a wild pitch and two balks from Henrdicks. Hendricks held the Wolfpack at bay the rest of the way to earn the victory in his third consecutive complete game. Jon Palmieri led the way for the Wake Forest offense, collecting three hits in four at bats with a home run and two RBI. Corey Slavik went 3-for-4 on the evening.

The Demon Deacons and Wolfpack will continue the three-game series on Saturday at 7 p.m.
