Baseball Crushed by NC State

RALEIGH, NC - North Carolina State scored eight runs in the first inning en route to a 21-4 victory over Wake Forest on Saturday night at Doak Field in Raleigh, NC.

With the victory, NC State improves its record to 26-13 and 8-3 in the ACC while Wake Forest falls to 25-15 and 7-9 in conference play. Wake Forest starter Jeremy Ward (5-6) took the loss, allowing seven runs, four of which were earned, on six hits in 2/3 of an inning. NC State's Dustin Baker (5-2) picked up the win after giving up four runs on eight hits and two walks in six innings while striking out five. Chris Carter picked up his second save of the season by tossing three scoreless innings to end the game.

The Wolfpack jumped out to a 8-0 lead after the first inning, but Wake Forest scratched back for four runs in the second, highlighted by a three-run double from freshman Chase Voshell. NC State answere with one run in the second, three in the third and five in the fourth to put the game away. Todd DeMakes went 4-for-5 with a career-high five RBI while Brian Ward drove in four runs on five hits, including a home run, to lead the NC State ofensive attack. Keith Walsh and Craig Lee also hit homers for the Wolfpack. Andrew Riepe went 2-for-4 for Wake Forest. The Demon Deacons and Wolfpack will conclude the three-game series on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
