No. 23 NC State Defeats Wake Forest

RALEIGH, N.C. - NC State's Noel Manley delivered a one-out single over a drawn in infield to score Jake Weber with the winning run in the tenth inning and give the Wolfpack a 10-9 victory over Wake Forest on Sunday afternoon at Doak Field in Raleigh, NC.

With the victory, NC State improves its record to 27-13 and 9-4 in the ACC while Wake Forest falls to 25-16 and 7-10 in conference play.

Wake Forest jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the middle of the third inning and a 7-2 lead in the middle of the fourth, but NC State scored four runs on only one hit in their half of the fourth inning to cut the lead to 7-6.

The Demon Deacons made it 8-6 on Chase Voshell's RBI single in the top of the fifth, but NC State's Brad Piercy belted a two-run homer in the bottom of the inning to tie the game at 8-8.NC State took its first lead in the game at 9-8 on a Wake Forest throwing error in the bottom of the seventh, but Will Rikard hit a solo home run in the top of the eighth to tie the score at 9-9.

Both teams left runners in scoring position in the ninth inning, and Wake Forest had a runner on second with one out in the top of the 10th but failed to score. Weber delivered a one-out single in the bottom of the tenth and Matt Postell,s infield single put runners at first and second with one out. A wild pitch moved the runners up a base and Manley delivered the game winning hit with a chopper past the left side of the infield. Grant Dorn (1-1) picked up the win with two scoreless innings of relief while Jeremy Ward (5-7) took the loss in relief, allowing one run in two innings of work.

The Demon Deacons return to action to face East Carolina on Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Hooks Stadium.
