WINSTON-SALEM, NC - Jon Palmieri and Danny Borrell hit back-to-back home runs in a three-run ninth inning rally to lead 14th-ranked Wake Forest to a 10-9 victory over visiting UNC Asheville on Sunday afternoon at Hooks Stadium.

With the victory, Wake Forest improved to 33-13 on the season and improved their home record to 22-3. UNC Asheville fell to 19-36.

Trailing by a score of 7-4 after eight innings, UNC Asheville erupted for five runs in the top of the ninth inning to take a 9-7 lead. Jason Ronai had a two-run double in that ninth-inning rally, while Ryan Moffett drove in a run with a triple and Eddie Woods delivered a RBI single for the Bulldogs.

Wake Forest immediately answered in the bottom of the ninth inning. Jason Aquilante delivered a leadoff single and Palmieri tied the score at 9-9 with his 14th home run of the season. Three pitches later, Borrell delivered a towering home run to right field, his 13th of the season, to give the Demon Deacons the 10-9 victory.

Borrell (1-2) also earned the win in relief of starter John Hendricks after blowing a save opportunity in the top of the ninth inning. Jason White (6-4) took the loss in relief for the Bulldogs after surrendering all three runs in the bottom of the ninth inning without recording an out.

Seven different Wake Forest players had at least two hits in the game, including Palmieri who finished 3-for-5 with three RBI. Scott Daeley, Andrew Riepe and Corey Slavik each homered and drove in two runs for the Demon Deacons.

Ronai paced the Bulldog attack with two hits and four RBI in five at bats while Moffett finished 2-for-5 with a home run and two RBI.

Wake Forest and UNC Asheville will conclude their two-game series on Monday afternoon at 1 p.m. at Hooks Stadium.
