RADFORD, Va. -- No. 16 Wake Forest used a trio of late home runs to defeat Radford, 9-2, at Carter Stadium on Wednesday night.

Tied 2-2 after six innings, the Demon Deacons (33-15) received home runs from Stuart Fairchild in the seventh, Ben Breazeale in the eighth and Bruce Steel in the ninth to take down the Highlanders (20-27).

The homer was Steel's 10th of the season, making him the fifth Deacon in double digits. That's the first time in program history five Deacons have hit double-digit homers, as Steel joins Gavin Sheets (17), Johnny Aiello (15), Fairchild (12) and Keegan Maronpot (10).

Wake Forest pitchers combined to strike out nine hitters without a walk, allowing six hits.

John McCarren started and matched his career-high with five strikeouts but received a no decision. Morgan McSweeney earned the win to improve to 3-1, while Chris Farish and Griffin Roberts also had scoreless outings.

Fairchild finished with three hits and three RBIs, while Jake Mueller also added three hits.

The Demon Deacons head to Tallahassee this weekend for a three-game series at No. 25 Florida State.
