CORAL GABLES, Fla. - The Wake Forest baseball team fell 11-0 in its opener of a three-game weekend series at the University of Miami on Friday, May 11 at Alex Rodriguez Park.

With the loss, the Demon Deacons drop to 27-21 and 9-16 in the ACC. Miami improves to 31-17 overall and 13-12 in the conference with the win.

Hurricane starter Eric Erickson fired six shutout innings and did not allow a hit until the sixth inning, as the Demon Deacons were shut out for just the second time this season and were held to a season-low one hit.

Deacon starter Tim Cooney fired five innings and allowed nine runs, but just five earned as the Deacon defense did him no favors by committing a season-high seven errors. The last time Wake Forest committed seven miscues in a game came back on February 21, 2010 versus Dayton.

Chris Willson and Matt Pirro combined to pitch three innings of relief on the night, allowing two earned runs and striking out a pair.

Freshman left fielder Grant Shambley recorded a one-out base hit to right in the sixth to break up Eric Erickson's perfect game bid, while Pat Blair and Mac Williamson also reached base via the walk.

Game two will get started tomorrow at 7:00 p.m. at Alex Rodriguez Park. Jack Fischer is slated to make his third start of the season for the Deacs.

The game will be televised on Comcast/Charter Sports Southeast.
