No. 15 Baseball Outslugs Old Dominion, 17-10

WINSTON-SALEM, NC - Jon Palmieri homered and drove in five runs and Scott Siemon earned his 10th victory of the season as 15th-ranked Wake Forest defeated Old Dominion, 17-10, on Tuesday afternoon at Hooks Stadium.

With the victory, Wake Forest improved to 35-13 on the season. The Demon Deacons wrapped up the 1999 home schedule with a 24-3 record. Old Dominion fell to 34-15.

With the win, Siemon (10-1) tied teammate Mike MacDougal for the ACC lead in victories and became just the eighth pitcher in Wake Forest history to reach at least 10 wins in a season. Siemon allowed eight runs on 10 hits in seven innings of work while striking out a season-high seven batters. He was dominant in the first five innings of the game, holding the Monarchs scoreless on three hits.

Old Dominion starter Louis Mazzante (4-2) took the loss after allowing five runs while failing to record an out.

Wake Forest took a 6-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning and stretched the lead to 14-0 after five innings of play. Old Dominion clawed back in the game with eight run in the sixth and seventh innings, but the Monarch pitchers could not stop the Demon Deacon offense that pounded out 15 hits and drew eight walks.

Palmieri paced the Wake Forest attack with three hits, including his 16th home run of the season. Nine different Wake Forest batters had at least one hit in the game, including three hits from Chase Voshell and two hits apiece from Andrew Riepe and Corey Slavik. Danny Borrell hit his 14th home run of the season for the Demon Deacons, while reserve catcher Joe Belton homered in his first at bat of the season.

ODU's Jason Greiner hit his sixth home run of the season, while Jared Musof drove in a team-high four runs. Joseph Trolio, Jim Detwiler and Eric Folmar each had two hits in the game for the Monarchs.

Wake Forest will return to action on Wednesday afternoon when the Demon Deacons visit Liberty at 2 p.m. Old Dominion will open a three-game CAA series against William & Mary on Thursday evening.
