Baseball Stays Alive in ACC Tournament

DURHAM, N.C. - Wake Forest scored the go-ahead run in the bottom of the eighth inning and held on to beat Georgia Tech in an elimination game on Friday at the ACC Tournament at Durham Athletic Park.

The Deacons (38-21) scored in the bottom of the first inning before the Yellow Jackets (38-20) tied it at 1-1 with a run in the fifth. The Deacons, who had six hits, then broke the team in the eighth.

Corey Slavik and Ben Danosky each had RBI for the the Deacons. Danosky also went 2-for-4. Jahmal Overton had one of the Georgia Tech four hits and had the lone RBI.

Eric Schmitt, who went nine innings for the Deacons, improved his record to 7-1. L.J. Yankosky, who struck out six batters, suffered his first loss of the season as he fell to 10-1.

Schmitt had eight strikouts and just two walks for the Deacons.
