No. 15 Baseball Downs Maryland, 4-0

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Catcher Andrew Riepe doubled and drove in two runs and Scott Siemon tossed eight shutout innings to lead 15th-ranked Wake Forest past Maryland, 4-0, on Sunday afternoon at Shipley Field.

With its eighth straight victory, Wake Forest improved its record to 39-13 on the season and 16-7 in ACC play. The Demon Deacons concluded the regular season in second place in the ACC regular season standings behind first-place Florida State. Maryland dropped to 21-31-1 overall and 6-17 in league play.

With the win, Scott Siemon (11-1) moved into a tie with teammate Mike MacDougal for first place in the ACC in victories. Siemon scattered six hits and for walks over eight innings without allowing an earned run. He fanned three Terrapin batters in the game. Danny Borrell tossed a scoreless ninth inning to close out the game.

Maryland starter Jamie Hammond (4-4) suffered the loss despite pitching a good ball game. Hammond allowed three runs on five hits seven innings of work.

The Demon Deacons took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning. Borrell was hit by a pitch to lead off the frame and then came around to score on a RBI double from Riepe. Riepe took third on a groundout and later scored on a wild pitch. Wake Forest made the score 3-0 with another run in the sixth inning. Jon Palmieri delivered a one-out single to right field, took third base on a double by Borrell and then came around to score on a RBI groundout from Riepe.

Wake Forest added an insurance run in the eighth to make the score 4-0. Scott Daeley led off the inning with a single and then took second base on a groundout from Jason Aquilante. Borrell, who went 2-for-3 in the game, then blasted a RBI double to center field to plate Daeley.

Wake Forest will next play in the ACC Tournament when the second-seeded Demon Deacons take on seventh-seeded Virginia on Wednesday at 5 p.m. at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park.
