Wake Forest Baseball Defeats UNC Asheville 17-5

WINSTOM-SALEM, NC--Wake Forest scored 15 runs in the first four innings on the way to a 17-5 win over UNC Asheville in college baseball action at Gene Hooks Stadium in Winston-Salem on Wednesday afternoon.

With the win, the Deacons improve to 4-0 while UNC Asheville falls to 0-8.

Wake Forest starter Danny Borrell only pitched three innings but earned the win. The freshman from Sanford, NC allowed no runs and only one hit. UNC Asheville's Shon Norris took the loss and gave up 11 runs, all earned, in his 2.2 innings of work.

The Deacons produced six runs in the first inning and picked up another run in the second on a solo home run by left fielder Stephen Sullivan. Sullivan had a solid day as he reached base and scored all four times he stepped to the plate. The sophomore had one double, a walk and was hit by a pitch.

In the third inning, junior right fielder Ben Danosky delivered a shot over the right field fence for a grand slam. It was Danosky's third home run in four games. He finished the game 1-3 with two runs scored and four rbi.

Wake Forest picked up four runs in the fourth inning and two more in the seventh to round out its scoring. On the day, Wake Forest batters recorded eight doubles. Two of those doubles came from senior Jon Palmieri who was 3-4 with two runs scored and three rbi.

UNC Asheville plated two runs in the fourth inning, one run in the seventh, and two more in the ninth. Five different players scored for the Bulldogs. Right fielder Marc Ludvigsen and third baseman Stephen Deyo both collected two hits apiece for UNCA. Both players produced an rbi while Deyo also scored a run.

Wake Forest travels to Houston, TX to begin play in the Holiday Inn Medical Center Classic on Friday beginning at 2 p.m. eastern time versus New Orleans. The Deacons will return home February 25 to face Appalachian State beginning at 2:30 p.m. at Hooks Stadium.
