Wake Forest Welcomes NC State for Three-Game Series

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest looks for its first Atlantic Coast Conference win of the season this weekend as it hosts NC State in a three-game series at Gene Hooks Field at Wake Forest Baseball Park.
Game times are set for 6 p.m. (ET) on Friday and Saturday and 1 p.m. (ET) on Sunday.
Single-game tickets for this weekend's action cost $6 and can be purchased on game day or in advance by visiting WakeForestSports.com. Season passes are also available. Adult season passes cost $45, while youth and senior season passes cost $25.
Wake Forest, 6-12 overall and 0-3 in the ACC, is coming off a 3-2 loss to Gardner-Webb in 11 innings on Wednesday night. The Demon Deacons led 2-0 going to the ninth inning, but Gardner-Webb rallied to tie the game with two runs in the ninth and scored the game-winning run on a balk in the 11th inning.
The Deacs opened conference play last weekend by dropping three games at No. 4 Georgia Tech.
Junior Steven Brooks leads Wake Forest with a .354 batting average and is second in the ACC with nine stolen bases. Brooks has also added two home runs and nine RBIs. Redshirt junior Ryan Semeniuk is hitting .352 and is tied for the team lead with three home runs. Senior Mike Murray is hitting at a .333 clip with three home runs and a team-leading 18 RBIs.
Sophomore RHP Michael Dimock (1-2, 3.50) will start the series opener for Wake Forest on Friday. Freshman LHP Tim Cooney (2-0, 3.20) is scheduled to start on Saturday, while sophomore LHP Austin Stadler (1-0, 5.96) will get the start on Sunday. Cooney ranks 14th in the ACC in ERA, while Dimock is 19th in the league in ERA.
NC State brings a 12-5 record into this weekend's series and a 0-3 mark in ACC play. The Wolfpack split a pair of midweek games earlier in the week, defeating North Carolina Central, 24-6, on Tuesday night, and falling at UNC Wilmington, 9-6, on Wednesday. NC State opened conference play last weekend by suffering a three-game sweep at Clemson.
Offensively, the Wolfpack leads the conference with a .370 team batting average and has scored a league high 211 runs on the year. NC State has four players with at least 40 at bats that are hitting over .400 on the season. Chris Schaeffer is hitting a team-best .450 with three home runs and 13 RBIs. Dallas Poulk is batting .426 with a team-high five home runs and an ACC-leading 33 RBIs. Kyle Wilson (.426, 1 HR, 10 RBI) and Andrew Ciencin (.423, 2 HR, 27 RBIs) are also hitting better than .400 on the year.
NC State ranks 11th in the ACC with a 6.14 ERA. The Wolfpack is scheduled to start junior RHP Jake Buchanan (2-1, 2.81) on Friday, sophomore RHP Cory Mazzoni (2-1, 5.40) on Saturday and redshirt senior LHP Alex Sogard (0-0, 6.35) on Sunday. Buchanan ranks 13th in the ACC in ERA and fifth in opponent batting average (.176), while Mazzoni is ninth in the league with 22 strikeouts.
Out of the bullpen, Nate King (0-0, 12.54) has appeared in a team-high eight games on the season. Rob Chamra (3-0, 2.45) has made seven outings out of the bullpen. Russell Wilson (0-0, 4.76) has the only save of the season for the Wolfpack.
NC State leads the all-time series against Wake Forest 100-53. The Wolfpack has won seven straight series against the Demon Deacons, including taking two out of three games from Wake Forest in 2009.
