WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Jack Carey, an infielder from Cockeysville, Md., has been added to the 2009 Wake Forest baseball recruiting class, as announced on Friday by head coach Rick Rembielak. The addition of Carey brings the total number of recruits in the 2009 class to 10. Along with Carey, the Deacs added nine prospective student-athletes in December. Other members of the 2009 recruiting class include Patrick Blair (Baltimore, Md.), Matt Conway (Birmingham, Mich.), Tim Cooney (Collegeville, Pa.), Jacob Johnson (Lake Worth, Fla.), Martin Kelley (Pompton Plains, N.J.), Mike Lubanski (Collegeville, Pa.), Mark Rhine (Orefield, Pa.), Niko Spezial (Ramsey, N.J.) and Justin Van Grouw (Oakland, N.J.). A four-year varsity starter at St. Paul's School, Carey was named a second team Louisville Slugger Preseason All-American and was recently rated as the best player in the state of Maryland by MaxPreps.com. Carey has twice been named to the All-Baltimore County first team and was named All-MIAA first team in 2008. Carey set the school record for hits and RBIs in a season in 2007. Carey has also excelled in the classroom, making the Headmaster's List and honor roll. Carey is involved in his school's Honor Council and the Peer Leadership Council.
