Final Baseball Polls Include Demon Deacons

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - 41 wins lifts Wake Forest into all three national polls. The Wake Forest baseball team, which overcame a host of injuries to record its third straight 40-win season, is ranked in the final edition of all three national college baseball polls.

Coach George Greer's team is ranked as high as 20th by Collegiate Baseball, 21st by Baseball America and 24th in the USA Today/Baseball Weekly/ESPN Coaches' Top 25. All three final polls were released Monday afternoon. During the regular season, Wake reached as high as 10th in the polls.

The Deacs finished the 2000 campaign with a record of 41-20-1, including a 14-10 mark in the ACC. Wake earned a bid to the NCAA Tournament for a school record third consecutive year and was issued a No. 2 seed in a regional hosted by the nation's No. 1-ranked team, South Carolina. In June, four members of the Wake team, plus four of its signees for next season, were taken in the baseball draft.
