GREENSBORO, N.C. – Wake Forest juniors Stuart Fairchild and Gavin Sheets were both honored by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) with national awards.

Fairchild was recognized with the ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove Award, given annually to the top defender at each position. He was also named a second team All-American.

This year, Fairchild had his second error-free season in three years as a Deacon. He was perfect in 165 defensive chances in center field, tallying four outfield assists. He also didn't make an error in 123 chances as a freshman right fielder in 2015. At the plate, Fairchild hit .360 with 19 doubles, 17 homers and 67 RBIs, also swiping 21 bases.

Sheets was also named a second team All-American by the ABCA. The first basemen led the ACC in home runs (21) and RBIs (84), while hitting .317 and drawing a team-high 46 walks.

Wake Forest finished the season with a 43-20 record, winning the Winston-Salem Regional and coming a game shy of qualifying for the College World Series.
