WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest baseball team took the field for the first time in the fall, opening fall practice on a beautiful Wednesday afternoon at Hooks Stadium.

"I thought the first day went well," head coach Rick Rembielak said. "I thought everyone knew where to go initially. We just started from the beginning with proper positioning. I thought the swings were good. The timing might be off a little bit, but the further along we go, the timing will come back."

The Deacons opened practice with the position players working on base running technique and the pitchers working on coming off the mound and fielding the ball. After that, the team worked on defensive positioning in different situations. The practice closed with the Deacs taking batting practice.

"What we want to do is instill the guidelines, the policies and the proper technique of everything we're trying to do," Rembielak added. "We're just trying to instill that as quickly as we can and there's no reason to delay that. We want to get ready for game situations. We're trying to simulate situations and proper positioning."

Fall practice culminates with the Black and Gold World Series. The best-of-five series is slated to begin on Saturday, October 4 with game one of the series. Game two will follow on Sunday, October 5. After a midweek game three, the series will close the following weekend, October 11th and 12th.
