WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – After dropping the first game, Team Black battled back to take the next two to win the Black and Gold World Series over Team Gold, two games to one.

The annual intrasquad series caps off the fall season, and the Demon Deacons now turn their sights to the beginning of the spring season in February.

Team Black's comeback was sparked by Stuart Fairchild's game two effort in which he went 3-for-4 with two home runs, a triple and six RBIs.

In the series, Ben Breazeale went 4-for-9 with three doubles, two RBIs, a walk and stolen base and Drew Freedman went 3-for-8 with three walks, a hit by pitch and two steals to lead Team Black. Nate Mondou also went 3-for-10 with a double and two RBIs.

Team Gold was led by Will Craig, who finished the series 5-for-10 with three doubles, a homer, two walks and three RBIs. Keegan Maronpot went 4-for-10 with a pair of doubles and walks. John McCarren led the pitching staff, tossing 3.0 innings without allowing an earned run on one hit and no walks, adding two strikeouts.

Game 1: Gold 6, Black 4

Team Gold jumped out to a 3-0 lead behind a Will Craig solo blast and two-run single by Johnny Aiello.

Team Black got a pair back on a Nate Mondou sac fly and an error, but Team Gold plated two more on a Gavin Sheets RBI single and an error, followed by a Jake Mueller sac fly to push the score to 6-2.

On the mound, Craig surrendered a pair of unearned runs in the seventh, but was able to close the door. Drew Loepprich earned the win after allowing two runs on two hits in 5.0 innings, while John McCarren had a scoreless inning in relief.

Game 2: Black 11, Gold 2

Team Black came back with a vengeance, fueled by Stuart Fairchild's dominant performance. He brought home Drew Freedman and Bruce Steel with his third-inning home run to open the scoring.

In the bottom of the inning, Craig doubled home Maronpot and Sheets brought home Aiello to cut the deficit to 3-2.

Team Black responded with eight unanswered runs to pull away. Fairchild hit a two-run blast in the fifth and Jonathan Pryor hit a two-run shot in the sixth to make the score 7-2.

Then, a Fairchild RBI triple, Ben Breazeale RBI double, Pryor RBI single and Aaron Smith sacrifice fly closed out the scoring.

Rayne Supple, Ryan Morse, Dylan Gordon and Parker Johnson each had scoreless outings in relief for Team Black. Kevin Conway added a pair of singles for Team Gold.

Game 3: Black 6, Gold 5

Team Gold jumped out to a 4-1 lead, but Team Black used a five-run third inning to take the lead for good.

A Craig RBI double and Gavin Sheets sac fly made the score 2-0 in favor of Team Gold in the opening inning.

Team Black cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the inning, when Drew Freedman scored on a Mondou RBI single.

Conway had an RBI hit-by-pitch and Mueller added a sacrifice fly in the third to put Gold up, 4-1.

Black's offense broke open in the third. Breazeale doubled home Fairchild, then Pryor brought in Mondou and Breazeale on another double to tie it. Aaron Smith had a go-ahead single, and Bruce Steel added a sac fly to make it 6-4.

After a Conway single plated Maronpot in the seventh, Donnie Sellers stranded two runners by forcing a game-ending groundout to clinch the series.

For Team Black, David Peljovich entered in relief and struck out three without allowing a hit or walk in 2.0 innings, and Parker Johnson struck out the side in the sixth.
