WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Wake Forest head baseball coach Tom Walter announced the team's 2017 signing class on Friday, featuring 11 incoming freshmen.
"Coach Bill Cilento and Coach Matt Hobbs have put together another fantastic recruiting class," Walter said. "What we like most about this class is versatility. On the mound we have brought in a variety of looks and a mix of power and finesse. In the field we're bringing in athleticism, toughness and offensive production."
Wake Forest's recruiting class is rated 30th in the nation by Perfect Game, best in the seven-year history of those rankings.
William Fleming | RHP | 6-5, 195 | R/R | Asheville, N.C/Christ School
Walter on Fleming
"William is a tall, lanky right-handed pitcher who is also a very good high school basketball player. He has plus sink and the makings of a good slider. Once he gets on a year-round strength program and adds 15 pounds, he should be a very dynamic power arm."

Picked as the No. 31 prospect in North Carolina and No. 355 overall by Prep Baseball Report ... NCISSA 3A all-state honoree ... Ethan Gallagher | OF | 6-1, 210 | R/R | Catonsville, Md./Mount Saint Joseph HS
Walter on Gallagher
"Ethan is a big, strong-bodied right-handed hitter who can run. His athleticism is raw and just coming together. As such, he is likely to contribute off the bench and add depth to our outfield as a freshman. Athleticism usually finds it way onto the field in college baseball so his role should increase each and every year he is in the program."
Pegged as the No. 280 recruit in the nation by Perfect Game, including the 56th-ranked outfielder and the No. 3 prospect from the state of Maryland ... Projected as the No. 12 prospect from Maryland by Prep Baseball Report ... All-state honoree during his junior season ... Has earned three varsity baseball letters ... Chris Lanzilli | 3B/LF | 6-2, 210 | R/R | Stoneham, Mass./Dexter School
Walter on Lanzilli
"Chris has unbelievable strength and balance in his swing. He hits the ball with power to all fields and is a good athlete. Defensively it's hard to say what his position will be, but we will look at him at third base and left field. Regardless of where he ends up playing, there is no question his bat will be in the line-up as a freshman."
Rated as the No. 318 prospect in the nation by Perfect Game, including the 19th-rated third baseman and the No. 4 prospect from the state of Massachusetts ... Walter on Ludowig
"Michael is a left-handed power bat who will hit in the middle of our order from the first day he steps foot on campus. Our park is tailor made for his swing. Defensively, he is primarily a corner outfielder, but, like Jared Shuster, will add a left-handed arm who has been up to 91."
Rated as the No. 476 prospect in the country by Perfect Game, including the No. 9 recruit from Virginia and the 91st-rated outfielder nationally ... Tabbed as the No. 4 recruit in Virginia and No. 184 prospect overall by Prep Baseball Report ... All-state honoree in 2016 ... Twice named all-region and all-conference ... Cole McNamee | IF/RHP | 6-4, 220 | R/R | Milton, Ga./Blessed Trinity Catholic HS
Walter on McNamee
"Cole is another power bat in this class who also has great arm strength on the mound. His likely role as a freshman will be as a match-up DH and right-handed bat off the bench. On the mound it's hard to say whether he can help or not; that will depend on the development of his secondary stuff."
Rated as the No. 285 overall prospect by Perfect Game, as well as the ninth-ranked first baseman in the country and No. 26 prospect from Georgia ... Won the 2016 Connie Mack World Series with the East Cobb Yankees, and finished as runners-up in the Perfect Game 18U National Wood Bat Championship ... Antonio Menendez | RHP/UT | 6-4, 190 | R/R | Herndon, Va./Herndon HS
Walter on Menendez
"Antonio is a right-handed pitcher who throws from multiple arm angles with great deception and movement. He will add a dimension to our pitching staff that we haven't had. He will likely pitch out of the bullpen as a freshman, but one day be a weekend starter, and may have a chance to hit."
Rated as the No. 477 prospect in the nation by Perfect Game, including the 10th-rated prospect from Virginia ... Picked as the No. 13 prospect in the state from Virginia and No. 321 prospect overall by Prep Baseball Report ... Twice named first team all-district, and also a first team all-region honoree ... Shane Muntz | C/RHP | 6-4, 240 | R/R | Phoenixville, Pa./Malvern Prep
Walter on Muntz
"Shane will see time behind the plate immediately. He can really catch and throw and has good power potential at the plate. On the mound, he throws with great velocity and features a quality breaking ball. He has a chance to close as a freshman."
Rated as the No. 185 prospect in the nation by Perfect Game, as well as the 20th-ranked catcher in the country and the No. 3 prospect from Pennsylvania ... DJ Poteet | SS/3B | 6-4, 190 | S/R | Johns Creek, Ga./Northview HS
Walter on Poteet
"DJ is an exciting offensive prospect. He hits with power from both sides of the plate and is still growing and filling out as an athlete. Once it all comes together for him he will be a very dynamic offensive player. As a freshman he will compete for time at all three infield positions and both corner outfield positions."
Ranked by Perfect Game as the No. 174 recruit in the nation, including the No. 15 prospect from the state of Georgia ... All-region honoree in 2015 and 2016 ... Earned six varsity letters - four in baseball and two in basketball ... Career highlight was hitting a home run in the state playoffs.

"Christian is a left-handed bat who will compete for the starting job at third base as a freshman. Offensively he has great life in his bat and power to all fields. Defensively he features a plus arm, good range and the ability to throw on the run. He has all the makings of a prototypical high level third baseman."
Rated as a top-1,000 prospect by Perfect Game, as well as the No. 342 recruit from Florida ... Earned three varsity baseball letters ... As a team captain in 2016, he hit .341 with 10 doubles and five homers ... Reached the state championship in 2015.

Bobby Seymour | 1B/OF | 6-4, 235 | L/R | St. John, Ind./Mount Carmel HS
Walter on Seymour
"Bobby is the heir apparent to Gavin Sheets at first base. He is a left-hander power bat who elevates the ball naturally to the pull side. His ability to hit the ball out of the ballpark will play immediately. As he matures into a complete hitter with good strike zone discipline, he will find his way into the middle of our order."
Rated as the No. 412 prospect in the country by Perfect Game, as well as the No. 13 first baseman nationally, and No. 8 prospect from Indiana ... Perfect Game rates him as the No. 13 prospect in Illinois, where his high school and club teams are, and No. 198 overall ... Hit .374 with 10 doubles, four homers and 51 RBIs as a junior ... Jared Shuster | LHP/OF | 6-3, 190 | L/L | New Bedford, Mass./Tabor Academy
Walter on Shuster
"Jared is an extremely athletic young man who is just now coming into his own as a baseball player. He will compete for the starting job in center field as a freshman and help us with left-handed pitching depth. It's hard to say right now whether he'll play professionally on the mound or in the field."
Ranked as the No. 309 prospect in the nation by Perfect Game, as well as the No. 38 LHP and No. 2 recruit from Massachusetts ... Prep Baseball Report rated him as the No. 5 prospect in the state and No. 152 overall ... Went a perfect 6-0 with a 0.45 ERA as a freshman ...
